BISCAYNE NATIONAL PARK – A feathered friend needed a helping hand at Biscayne National Park in Florida. A cormorant (with stunningly colored eyes) somehow got his head tangled in a metal ring cut from the bottom of an aluminum can. It forced the bird’s mouth open and was cutting into the back of its head, according to the National Park Service.
After a couple attempts, wildlife officials were able to capture the bird and remove the metal ring. They conducted a health check and released it back into the park.
It’s a good ending to a story that could have ended differently. But most importantly, it’s something that never needed to happen in the first place.
