YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK – Rare video was captured of a grizzly bear stealing a kill from wolves.  The bear was demonstrating what’s called “kleptoparasitism,” in which one animal benefits by stealing from another.

This clever bear was spotted traveling with the Junction Butte wolf pack in Yellowstone National Park one fall. The bear let the wolves do all the work on an elk hunt and then swooped in to the carcass to fill its belly, while the wolves were forced to watch their meal stolen right from under them.

The video was captured by a Yellowstone National Park biologist near Hellroaring Creek in October of 2021.
