Cub Stuck in Soccer Net Rescued While Mama Bear Keeps Watch

The Horns of a Bighorn Sheep Can Weigh a Whole Lot

Bighorn sheep really do have big horns!

A soccer net caught a bear cub instead of a soccer ball in Lake Tahoe, leading to a precarious rescue operation under the protective watch of mama bear.

The cub was found tangled in the net at Kings Beach State Recreation Area with mama lying down right next to her baby.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife worked quickly and efficiently to get the little one free in just under five minutes, while crews made sure mama gave them enough space to work.

The cub ran off up into a tree right after being freed, and then wandered off with mama bear back into the woods shortly after. Job well done, CDFW!

  1. Excellent rescue, nobody hurt! But can we normalize removing soccer nets after use? So many animals get caught in them: birds, deer, and now bears!
