HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK – It snowed in Hawaii!
Snowflakes settled on Mauna Loa in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park during a storm this week. The wintry conditions are even dusting a fissure that was spewing out lava just a few days ago.
Mauna Loa’s summit is 13,679 feet above sea level. Freezing conditions are common during the winter. It’s one of the few places on earth where you can play in the snow and lounge on a sandy beach within a 2-hour drive!
From Mauna Loa, you can also see Mauna Kea at an elevation of 13,803 feet. Snow falls there as well. It’s considered the tallest mountain on earth from its undersea base to its summit.
