TREMPEALEAU, WISCONSIN – TE3—lovingly called Little T—has fledged from her nest on private land in Wisconsin in the face of incredible obstacles. The eaglet hatched earlier this year and grew to be a strong and healthy thanks to her devoted mom, Mrs. T.
Mrs. T did everything in her power to raise Little T safely, protecting her eaglet from snow, rain, and gusty winds while also hunting and providing food. She did her job, despite the fact that Mrs. T’s mating partner, Mr. T, often stole food from Mrs. T’s nest and their offspring just across the river and within view of the Little T’s web camera. (Mr. T did occasionally feed a few bites to Little T before leaving with the rest of the food.)
That’s tough for us as humans to watch and understand. In fact, it’s rare for a male bald eagle to mate with two females, but it has been documented in the past, according to wildlife officials.
Regardless, Little T has now taken her first flight thanks to Mrs. T., and Little T is on track to eventually leave the nest and create a life of her own.
