The Comal River Water Trail, Hell’s Revenge Trail, Sweet Spring Turnpike Trail and Banks-Vernonia State Trail have all been added to the National Trails System.
In Texas, the Comal River Water Trail is 1.5 miles of water that flows through New Braunfels. It’s one of the best tubing rivers in the state, fed by cool and clear spring-fed waters. People love to fish, kayak and scuba dive there.
The famous Hell’s Revenge Trail in Utah is the most popular off-highway vehicle trail near Moab. The 9.7-mile trail allows intrepid drivers to see stunning views of Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.
Oregon’s Banks-Vernonia State Trail is described by the National Park Service as a gently graded “21-mile paved rail-to-trail route connecting the towns of Banks and Vernonia through the foothills of Oregon’s lush coastal mountain range.”
The Sweet Spring Turnpike Trail in West Virginia is just a little over one mile along a remarkably intact section of a historic 19th century stage road. It’s now a multi-use track that runs through open pastures and dense forests, taking walkers, bikers and joggers past “magnificent views” of Sweet Springs Valley and the Andrew S. Rowan Memorial Farm.
The announcement was made by the National Parks Service on June 1 to celebrate Great Outdoors Month and National Trails Day. The new trails in four states added 33.5 miles to the National Trails System.
