Going-to-the-Sun Road Set to Reopen After Snow Cleared

Must Read

This National Park is Home to the Tallest Sand Dunes in America

The tallest are Star Dune and Hidden Dune, both rising 741 feet from base to summit.

GLACIER NATIONAL PARK – Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road is expected to fully open to cars Monday, June 16, for the 2025 summer season.

This is one of the most scenic roads in the entire world, transporting travelers up to the beautiful Logan Pass, over the Continental Divide, and connecting the western side of the Montana park with the eastern side. Aside from the stunning views, you’ll also want to keep an eye out for wildlife of all kinds, including mountain goats, bears, and bighorn sheep.

Before it could reopen, crews had to plow a massive amount of snow off the high elevation road. There’s one place called, “The Big Drift,” that can accumulate 80 feet of snow in the winter.

Just remember, you’ll need a reservation from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. if you’re entering Going-to-the-Sun Road from the west side of the park.

More information on timed entry vehicle reservations can be found online on Glacier National Park’s website.

However, you will not need a reservation if you’re coming in from the east side of the park at the St. Mary entrance.
