New Water Restrictions in Place After Water Bursts from Pipe

These Presidents Established the Most National Monuments

Fun fact: National Park Service units are designated through either congressional action or by presidential declaration.

A geyser opened up in Grand Canyon National Park this week, forcing new water restrictions on the South Rim. The park has required multiple water conservation efforts recently due to several breaks in the same line.

Services impacted by the newest Transcanyon Waterline break include:

  • Camper Services operated by Delaware North will be closed beginning Saturday, Dec. 7
  • Water spigots in Mather Campground will be turned off on Dec. 7
  • Fire restrictions will be in place until further notice

Visitors and residents are warned that more conservation measures could be necessary. Everyone is asked to conserve water by limiting showers to five minutes or less, turning the water off while shaving or brushing teeth, washing laundry with full loads, and even selectively flushing the toilet.

In August, some overnight hotel services were temporarily suspended after four “significant” breaks in the 12½ mile-long Transcanyon Waterline.
