The 2nd National Park in the U.S. Eventually Lost That Title

Michigan’s Mackinac Island was the country’s 2nd ever national park, created in 1875, just three years after Yellowstone National Park.

Say hello to some of our favorite new employees at the National Park Service! Four new K-9 teams have been certified as official NPS K-9 units.

↟ U.S. Park Ranger Waring & K-9 Cat
↟ U.S. Park Ranger Findley & K-9 Vidar
↟ U.S. Park Ranger Fenner & K-9 Rocky

“Thank you to these teams for their dedication and hard work in becoming K-9 officers,” said the National Park Service. The NPS didn’t disclose the parks where they’ll be working.

K-9 units serve an array of crucial roles within the National Park Service, including detecting drugs, tracking suspects, assisting in arrests, sniffing out explosives and recovering evidence.
