Hundreds of Balloons Removed from National Park Every Year

The Most Hoodoos on Earth are Found in a U.S. National Park

Nowhere else in the world has this many of the unique rock formations created by years of erosion in one place.

Balloons are fun but they can also turn into big problems.

So far this year, 1,663 balloons have been removed from Biscayne National Park in Florida, “floating on the water, under the water caught on the reef, washed ashore, and tangled in the mangroves,” says the National Park Service.

The tally this year is higher than in 2023, when 1,560 balloons were removed. That’s a concern because those balloons harm the environment.

“Please, no matter where you live, skip the balloons at your next celebration and try to find something more ecofriendly,” says the NPS.
