NORTH CASCADES NATIONAL PARK – A hiker who went missing about a month ago in North Cascades National Park has been found alive.
39-year-old Robert Schock was last seen on July 31 on the Chilliwack River Trail in the Washington state park with his dog. Schock’s dog was found a couple days later by a park ranger, and Schock was subsequently reported missing. Search and rescue efforts were launched to find him, to no avail.
Then on Aug. 30, a trail crew heard Schock yelling for help. Schock was eventually flown out by helicopter and taken to a hospital. His mother, Jan Thompson, told Cascadia Daily News that Schock was malnourished but uninjured.
“He’s in a lot of pain and he isn’t speaking very well, but he’s coherent and seemed in pretty high spirits,” Thompson said.
No word yet on how Schock got lost and how he survived.
