HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK – Did you know: The world’s largest active lava lake is located at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in Hawaii!

The molten rock covers an expanse of 300 acres at the summit of the Kilauea volcano. Kilauea has been erupting regularly for years. In 2018, an eruption destroyed more than 700 homes as lava flowed downslope all the way to the ocean. The current eruption is contained within the summit crater.

You can see the lava yourself by taking a trip to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on Hawaii Island, also called the Big Island. In fact, you can drive right up to overlooks on the rim of the crater. It’s a sight you’ll never forget!
