Ambitious plans are in the works for one of Grand Teton National Park’s most popular destinations. Colter Bay is popular for its rustic cabins, campsites, Swim Beach and marina. The Colter Bay Visitor Center has seen a 100% visitation increase since 2012, but its infrastructure and design haven’t been updated for about 70 years.
Now, the National Park Service is planning a major overhaul designed to help meet the expectations of travelers to the Wyoming park. Goals include reestablishing viewsheds, improving the overall visitor experience by connecting bike and walking pathways more intuitively, creating areas for local Tribes to conduct cultural activities, and installing infrastructure that can accommodate larger crowds. Ultimately, the idea is to reestablish Colter Bay as a “key destination.”
