Later in the season, something magical happens.

BIG BEND NATIONAL PARK – Big Bend National Park is getting bigger. A non-profit called The Big Bend Conservancy is finalizing a deal to buy 3,815 acres of land, which will then be donated to the Texas park.

The land just west of the park holds key watersheds, important wildlife habitat, fossils and a historic school house, which will be preserved for perpetuity once all is said and done.

There’s work underway in the U.S. Congress to pass legislation to officially expand the park’s boundaries.
