KATMAI NATIONAL PARK AND PRESERVE – Congratulations to the burly bear called 747 (like the jumbo jet)! The chunky champion has been named the bulkiest of all the big bears during Fat Bear Week at Katmai National Park and Preserve in Alaska. The secret to his success? Lots and lots of salmon!
Perhaps even more impressive than his girth, 747 was able to overcome a voting scandal. More than 9,000 spam votes were reportedly submitted for bear 901. Those votes were stripped out of the final result. And voting now includes a “Captcha” test to ensure the integrity of future polls!
