DENALI NATIONAL PARK – Drop everything and look at Denali’s brand new puppies! Better yet, you can watch this year’s litter of five via a live webcam!
The puppies were born on May 3, 2025, in Denali National Park and Preserve. Their names are Storm, Squall, Graupel, Fog and Dew. The weather-related names are in honor of 100 years of weather data collection by the mushing rangers of Denali in partnership with the National Weather Service (NWS).
The dogs will eventually be big and strong enough to pull sleds throughout the Alaska park, perpetuating Denali’s proud and strong tradition.

Side note: you might be wondering what Graupel means. Here’s the definition, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA):
Graupel are soft, small pellets formed when supercooled water droplets (at a temperature below 32°F) freeze onto a snow crystal, a process called riming. If the riming is particularly intense, the rimed snow crystal can grow to an appreciable size, but remain less than 0.2 inches. Graupel is also called snow pellets or soft hail, as the graupel particles are particularly fragile and generally disintegrate when handled.
