Festive Sea Creatures Provide the Holiday Spirit Year-Round

Christmas Tree Worms are little undersea creatures shaped like tiny, colorful Christmas trees and live on coral reefs in tropical environments, like the National Park of American Samoa.

Fun fact: The Black Crack is a giant chasm in Canyonlands National Park that you definitely don’t want to get too close to! This abyss is at least 65 feet deep and 3 feet across at points.

Reaching this fissure in sandstone is only for the most intrepid and rugged adventurers. It’s at about the halfway point of the 100-mile White Rim Road, an unpaved track through the Utah desert that requires 4-wheel drive or bikes to reach. You also need to secure a permit through the National Park Service to try to go there.
