Yellowstone Wasn’t Named for its Most Famous Features

Yellowstone National Park was not named for the colorful geothermic features for which it’s so famous.

SEQUOIA NATIONAL PARK – The splendid Crystal Cave in Sequoia National Park is reopening to visitors this summer after a four-year closure.

The cave is a “breathtaking marble cavern” with spectacular features from “delicate crystal draperies to towering stalagmites,” as described by the Sequoia Parks Conservancy.

Tours can be booked as of March 31, 2025 and they’ll run from June 1 to August 31. Booked tours are the only way to access the cave. In previous years, tickets were sold out months in advance.

The cave has been shut down since 2021 following a wildfire and then two damaging winter storms in 2022 and 2023.
