YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK – A bison stampede sent visitors scrambling to safety in Yellowstone National Park, and a photographer captured the chaos while in the midst of it all.

The Wapiti wolf pack had just killed a cow bison in Hayden Valley, when the rest of the bison herd started charging up a hill directly toward a large crowd of people that had gathered to observe the wildlife, according to the talented Jeff Vanuga who shared images of the incident.

“Everyone ran and scattered about as the bison thundered through people, snow coaches and snowmobiles,” Vanuga wrote on Instagram.

The crowd was larger than usual because wolves usually kill at night, making this a rare sight for visitors.

“Luckily no one was injured, and after getting out of harms way I managed a couple shots of the last bison weaving through the crowd. An adrenaline filled morning!” Vanuga said.
