Even in retirement, these special dogs need exercise and cold temperatures to thrive.

President Biden has created two new national monuments, setting a record for any president when it comes to preserving the most land and waters. The White House says 674 million acres were protected during Biden’s four years in office, eclipsing former President Barack Obama, under whom Biden served as Vice President.

The two new monuments are both in California—the 624,000-acre Chuckwalla National Monument south of Joshua Tree National Park and the 224,000-acre Sáttítla Highlands National Monument in Northern California.

The Sáttítla Highlands National Monument has the longest-known lava tube system in the world, while Chuckwalla is home to 50 species of rare plants and animals. Both sites are also of vital importance to native tribes.
