GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK – A new mountain bike trail system is in the works at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Nearly 12 miles of trails would run through Wears Valley. Roughy 4.2 miles would be designated as “easy,” 2.9 miles as “moderate,” and 4.7 miles would be “advanced” track. A mile-long road would be built to allow access to the trailhead.
The National Park Service conducted a study and found that adding the mountain biking trails would have no significant impact on the environment within the 425-acre scope of the project.
This project dates all the way back to 2018. No word on the timeline for completion.
