Nation’s Newest National Park Expands

Brown Bears and Grizzlies are the Same Species but Very Different

Fun fact: Brown bears and grizzly bears may seem the same, but they’re not.

NEW RIVER GORGE NATIONAL PARK AND PRESERVE – America’s newest national park is growing; forty-five acres of land have been added to New River Gorge National Park and Preserve in West Virginia. Those acres are now part of the “Preserve” portion of New River Gorge, which allows hunting.

The park superintendent says the new land connects two “previously non-contiguous sections,” which means easier access for hunters and anyone else who wants to explore the area. Access will be limited at first, as the park creates parking areas and marks the boundary.

New River Gorge was designated as a national park in 2020.
