Yellowstone Wasn’t Named for its Most Famous Features

Yellowstone National Park was not named for the colorful geothermic features for which it’s so famous.

DENALI NATIONAL PARK AND PRESERVE – The only road through Denali National Park and Preserve has been wiped out by continuous landslides. Now, a suspended bridge will be built to reconnect the key thoroughfare.

The landslide is at the halfway point of the road through the park and has been impassable at the Pretty Rocks area since 2021. Construction on the bridge is expected to be complete by the summer of 2025, at a cost capped at $102 million.

More big projects are anticipated— the same road is threatened by possible landslides at more than 140 other sites along its route, according to the Alaska Beacon. Climate change is having a big impact on Denali. Slopes are being destabilized by thawing permafrost and increased rainfall.
