SANTA MONICA MOUNTAINS NATIONAL RECREATION AREA – A mountain lion has given birth to four kittens in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. They are healthy and already fierce, just like their mother P-99. All are female kittens and dubbed P-109 through P-112.

This comes as the LA Planning commission takes up a proposal to create a wildlife district within the sprawling city to protect mountain lions and other animals, like bobcats, coyotes and deer. The National Park Service has been studying how cougars live in the urban environment of Los Angeles and its surrounding areas, and this litter now joins the study.
