CHANNEL ISLANDS NATIONAL PARK – Watch out mom! Betty Lou learning to fly is like a teen learning to drive!

The young bald eagle is getting ready to fledge in Channel Islands National Park off the coast of California. Betty Lou is this year’s eaglet from proud mom Audacity and father Jak. The doting parents have done a great job raising Betty Lou to the point that she’s about to take off, in this instance, unintentionally steering onto mom’s back!

Betty Lou’s name is a combination of the famous Betty White—a beloved supporter of wildlife—and Lou, the grandmother of a donor. Jak and Audacity were both born into captivity in the San Francisco Zoo before their release into the wild and have been nesting in Channel Islands National Park since 2014.
