Yosemite National Park was originally called “Ahawanee” by the southern Miwok people who lived there.

Voyageurs National Park has grown by 51 acres!

“This parcel, located approximately 18 miles east of the Rainy Lake Visitor Center, features two sandy beaches and serves as crucial habitat for wildlife, including deer, otters, foxes, and eagles,” said Voyageurs Conservancy, which worked to acquire the land.

The acreage is on Big Island in Rainy Lake. It has belonged to the Ramsey family for three generations, purchased in 1958 before the Minnesota national park was established.

“This transition will allow park visitors to experience the awesome sunrises, hear the call of the loon, and listen to the wind whispering in the pine trees—just as our family has for so many years,” said Shelley and Michael Ramsey.
