The Grand Tetons’ name has a somewhat sultry origin.

MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK – The Cascade red fox has been designated as an endangered species by Washington State. 

The uniquely colored fox lives in the southern Cascade Mountain Range. Its exact population is unknown. But one study found just 51 foxes living between Mount Rainier and Mount Adams. 

The animals are a top predator in the high subalpine forests and meadows and help keep the population of rodents and other small mammals in check.
