BUFFALO NATIONAL RIVER – A man who was accused of conducting illegal tours at Buffalo National River in Arkansas has been convicted after a hiker on one of his tours fell and died.

The victim slipped off a trail at the Eye of the Needle in the Indian creek area and landed in shallow water, according to authorities. At the time, the group was turning around after another hiker declared they couldn’t go any farther on the difficult trail.

The tour guide, who allegedly accepted payments for the hikes but never secured permits, will be sentenced in May.
