MOUNT RAINIER NATIONAL PARK – Hitting that snooze button on your alarm could mean adding some mileage to your hike.

Parking lots get packed at national parks nowadays, especially for popular trails. This video shows the crowds at Paradise in Mount Rainier National Park, at the base of the famous Washington state peak.

A lot of the people in this video – and another one just recently posted by the National Park Service – had to walk a long way uphill to get to the visitor center and the trailheads that spread out from there.

But the walk is worth it: There are spectacular vistas of Mount Rainier and the surrounding splendor once you get to Paradise, which is aptly named!

Here are some helpful tips to avoid parking problems, shared by the amazing NPS team at Mount Rainier National Park:

1. Aim to have a Plan B and C when you come to the park.
2. Download driving directions and maps prior to entering the park, in case you do not have cell service.
3. Bring extra water and food for your journey.
4. Take note of bathroom locations in the areas of the park you’ll be visiting.
