Study Finds Utah’s Wildlife Overpass is a Big Success

A new wildlife overpass in Utah is working beautifully! Video shows bears, moose, coyotes, porcupines, and bobcats on the bridge over the busy Interstate 80, outside of Salt Lake City.

A recently published study by Utah State University on Parley’s Wildlife Overpass found:

↟ Wildlife-vehicle collisions were reduced by 77%

↟ Moose crossed successfully 100% of the time

↟ Mule deer crossed successfully 97% of the time (2,000 crossings during the two-year study)

“A successful crossing is measured by an animal approaching the bridge and moving across to the other side,” said the Utah Department of Transportation. “If a crossing is unsuccessful that means the animal turned around.”
