ROUGE NATIONAL URBAN PARK (CANADA) – People are abandoning their pets at a national park in Canada. Officials at Rouge National Urban Park in Toronto report a three-fold increase in pets being ditched at their park recently.
Factors playing into the decision to put pets out could include inflation straining finances and the realization that they can’t properly care for their animals after the surge in pet adoptions during the pandemic.
Sadly, domestic animals are not suited to survive in the wilderness. People are urged to drop their pets off at a shelter instead.
Rouge National Urban Park is 29 square miles in size, making it the largest urban park in North America. It’s located in the greater Toronto area and is a popular place to hike and camp. Bears, coyotes, fox, deer, porcupine, and many other animals call the park home.
