YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK – The iconic Ahwahnee Hotel at Yosemite National Park is getting $31.6 million for a kitchen makeover and upgrades to become more earthquake-safe.
Federal funding will go toward bracing the dramatic chimneys and support walls. Window frames and glass in its famous dining room will be replaced.
The kitchen upgrade will require the closure of the hotel for 8 weeks in early 2023. Ahwanee will be off-limits to visitors and no reservations will be accepted during that time. But when it reopens, it’s sure to be spectacular as always and a little safer!
And here’s a fun fact: Did you know the Ahwahnee was part of the inspiration behind the design of Disneyland’s Grand Californian Hotel?
