ARCHES NATIONAL PARK – A retired NPS employee hiking in Arches National Park spotted fresh white spray-paint on the sandstone near Landscape Arch earlier this month. The paint looked newly applied, likely put there during the government shutdown when parks had limited staff on duty.
Graffiti on sandstone isn’t easy to remove. It often requires professional crews using careful techniques so the rock itself isn’t damaged.
This damage to one of the Utah park’s most iconic spots is a frustrating reminder that even a few thoughtless actions can leave a lasting mark.
