Later in the season, something magical happens.

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK – A rockfall in Yosemite tragically killed a married couple from San Jose, California. The significant rockfall also temporarily closed El Portal Road, one of the main entrances to the park.

Details remain unclear, including whether they were in their vehicle at the time. When the rockfall and road closure were first announced, no reference was made to any deaths.

Rockfalls are common occurrences within the park, due to the geology and landscape of the region, defined by granite cliffs and steep slopes. In fact, an unrelated incident closed another road the same week. In 2021, 47 rockfalls were recorded in Yosemite valley.
